Why should you have a multilingual website?

It’s easy to forget all about other languages when setting up your online business! With the resources needed to put together a new website, multilingual capabilities are very commonly ignored, as the process of getting multiple translations can get complicated and expensive. But ignoring the importance of being multilingual can be a costly mistake: unlocking the possibility for visitors to read and interact in their own language means you’ll be significantly widening your reach, increasing your chances of business success!

This is why it’s important to think of ways to offer translations in more languages: multilingual websites naturally rank in more countries and attract more potential customers. Your visitors will also feel like you are significantly more localized by speaking to them in a language they easily understand!

But how about the cost and headache to set up a proper multilingual website offering high quality translations? This is where Weglot can make it easy: with a simple way to unlock multilingual capabilities swiftly, your website can go from targeted towards a single language to multilingual in an easy, affordable manner!

Yes, Pro plans and above offer multisite support. This allows you to manage translations in several languages and several multilingual websites separately and gives access to one person per website.

Does Weglot Translate provide support?

Yes, and our users love us for it; just check out our reviews! The Weglot Translate team offers support for all users, with priority accorded to premium members. Be sure to check out our Help center. Post a topic on the support forum, or email us at support@weglot.com if you have any questions.

Can I use subdomains for each language?

It’s not currently possible to use several subdomains on WordPress with Weglot Translate such as de.website.com. However, Weglot uses subdirectories in your URL to separate all the multilingual versions of your website.

For example, if your website is website.com, then the French version would be website.com/fr/, same for the German version website.com/de/, and so on. This is repeated for each version of your new multilingual website. A unique URL is therefore created for each version of your multilingual web page, which is important for your SEO.

What is the quality of Weglot’s translations?

Weglot offers the same high quality of automatic translations throughout all plans, from free to enterprise. We use leading providers like DeepL, Google Translate, and Microsoft Translator to bring you the most accurate translations for your language pairs. You can also refine these translations, have team members edit them, or professionally translate them throughout all plans.

Love the plugin (and team)! The auto translations are already great, and the functionalities to amend them even better. It's a super simple to use website and still has a lot of functions to offer. It saved me so many hours of work creating a different language version of my website. It was a few clicks, some extra checks and I showed up bilingual. With the way the tool works I was even able to forward a German domain to the German version of my website, so my website shows up truly native German now, rather than "German being the second best option to choose". Their customer service has been prompt and really gone above and beyond to help me! Thank you!

We just wanted to transfer our existing texts (de+en) to a new WordPress website. After extensive research, we chose WeGlot. The setup was uncomplicated. However, serious drawbacks emerged: Our website contained approximately 4500 words in total. These could be "translated" during the one-week(?) trial period with a limit of 10,000 words. However, after that, a subscription must be purchased, even if no further changes are made to the website. And that gets expensive (from €15 per month). Excluding pages from translation is possible but doesn't help because then these pages are displayed in the original language although they are translated (even in WeGlot). Additionally, text on excluded pages cannot be overwritten. Conclusion: WeGlot is only suitable for small businesses that have less than 2000 words on their website.Another disadvantage (likely applicable to all providers of such tools): You have to stay "on board" for life, otherwise, the website will only be delivered in the original language.Another major disadvantage: I can only customize the target page to a limited extent. WeGlot always translates 1:1. If you need significantly different text on the target page rather than a direct translation, you have to manually edit the translations. And that can be very time-consuming. It's also unclear which system is used for the automatic translation (at least I couldn't find any obvious information about it). Furthermore, the quality of the translation is sometimes not great. Also, the formatting is sometimes not properly retained. For example, in numbered headings, the first letter was lowercase ("1. our Terms and Conditions") although it was upperrcase in the source. The start was also very unfortunate:Initially, only German (the source language) was visible. Purely by chance and after hours of trial and error, I discovered that you have to activate "Make public" for the language direction. Additionally, if I'm not mistaken, you have to confirm every automatically translated string for it to be visible. Otherwise, the original language continues to be displayed.

All I can say is that it is an amazing product. The help-team is on the ball and not only answered my questions but went above and beyond to assist me. I am extremely satisfied and recommend this product.
